Consumption & Sustainability

Fostering consumption and production patterns that promote fairness and conserve natural resources is a central objective of sustainable development. Forging pathways towards greater sustainability is a complex and challenging task. Consumption is influenced by a variety of interdependent ecological, economic and social factors. Mobility & Sustainability

Mobility plays a central role in many societies and is frequently viewed as an expression of quality of life. But our mobility also devours finite resources on a massive scale, produces emissions that are harmful to the climate, and negatively impacts air quality and human health. The UN Sustainable Development Goals and the German Strategy for Sustainable Development make frequent mentions of mobility, but does not focus on this issue explicitly. The Science Platform Sustainability 2030 seeks to raise awareness of this crucial issue and to develop policy recommendations that will advance the transition towards more sustainable transportation systems.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals and the German Strategy for Sustainable Development both seek to tackle this issue. Effective political processes and structures are critical to their protection – and yet few exist. A group of experts at the Science Platform Sustainability 2030 will fill this gap and develop actionable policy recommendations to address this situation within the scope of the German Sustainable Development Strategy.
