Prof. Martin Visbeck is co-chair of the Science Platform Sustainability 2030, head of the Physical Oceanography department at GEOMAR – Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, and Professor of Oceanography at Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. His research revolves around ocean dynamics and climate variability, integrated ocean observations, and sustainable development in the context of the human-ocean relationship. Prof. Visbeck has been chair of DKN Future Earth since 2013 and spokesperson of the Kiel Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” since 2007. He is also a member of various governing boards and councils, including the Scientific Committee of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), the Governing Board of the International Science Council (ISC), and the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

In the Science Platform Sustainability 2030, Visbeck also leads the working group on the Global Commons.
