Olaf Tschimpke is a geographer and President of NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) Germany. He is also chair of the Board of Trustees of the Stiftung Naturschutzgeschichte, chair of the German Council for Sustainable Development, and a member of the advisory boards of the following organisations: Umweltstiftung Michael Otto, the Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung, the German Industry Initiative for Energy Efficiency, and the ZDF Fernsehrat.

He is a member of the steering committee of the Science Platform Sustainability 2030 and a member of the working group on the Global Commons.
