Alexander Müller is a sociologist, head of a global study commissioned by UN Environment on “The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity for Agriculture and Food”, and managing director of TMG – Töpfer, Müller, Gaßner GmbH, ThinkTankforSustainability. He has been a member of the German Council for Sustainable Development since 2013. From 2006 to 2013, he was Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), where he also headed the department for the Management of Natural Resources and the Environment. From 2008 to 2011, he was chair of the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition and a member of the Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change (AGECC) that advised UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on energy and climate protection matters. Prior to that, he was a state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Müller is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Crop Diversity Trust and ICRAF – World Agroforestry Center.
He is a member of the steering committee of the Science Platform Sustainability 2030 and a member of the working group on the Global Commons.
